LOCANDA MESCOGLIA IS THE RESULT OF AN IMPORTANT PROJECT AND THE ACHIEVEMENT OF A FAMILY DREAM ABOUT CREATING A PLACE THAT REPRESENTS ITS HISTORY AND ITS VALUES.

“Mescoglia” has always been our nickname, that of an “ordinary” family, strongly bonded to the land and traditions, made up of different men and women but close-knit by the same ideals of welcoming and sharing.

“Mescoglia” is named after the position of our house, located at the top of a steep cliff (a rock, actually), exactly in the same spot where our Locanda stands today, inside the Castle of San Mariano.

The inn is located inside the ancient Castrum of San Mariano, a fortified settlement dating back to the 11th century.

Since its inception, the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times; it has seen monks and warriors, traders and peasants, men and women, abbots and various men of power. It has hosted fairs and public assemblies, houses and artisan shops, even a hospital.

Today the castle, almost completely renovated, is an oasis of peace and tranquility where time is marked by the sound of the bells.
